The Lillian R. BeVier Award is named for Lillian R. BeVier of the University of Virginia School of Law. She serves on the national Board of Visitors for the Federalist Society, taught at the Law School from 1973-2010, and is now the David and Mary Harrison Distinguished Professor of Law Emeritus.
Honoring Professor BeVier at her retirement, Dean Mahoney said, “[T]here is no one who better embodies what is most admirable about the culture of this wonderful institution: the combination of intellectual toughness with personal warmth and civility; the deep dedication to preparing our students for success in their careers and lives; a belief in research and teaching as a collective mission; the insistence on putting institutional interests before personal preferences. Simply put, Lillian was an ideal colleague.”
The award is presented annually to a UVA Law student who exemplifies the spirit of service and dedication characteristic of Professor BeVier’s distinguished career. The recipient has carried forward her commitment to the Federalist Society’s founding principles through outstanding contributions to the chapter and thoughtful, good-natured participation in the life of the law school.
